Leather Wallet

Inspiration

My main inspirations were the Coach Wristles and a Coach ID Holder. I wanted to make a blend of both designs and make a wallet with an ID Holder that could fit my phone and my cards inside.

Laser Cutter Preparation

I completed more than five paper prototypes before being able to print in the laser cutter. When I laser cut, and I sewed the wallet, I did not like the way it looked. The image above is the final artwork that I used to cut the black leather in the Laser Cutter.

Process

I started my process by cutting an Italian White Leather. I noticed that after putting Resolene, the leather started to look a little different. Even though I was not happy with the result after the Resolene dried, I decided to still sew it since it was my first prototype

When I finished my first prototype I saw that choosing white as my leather color wasn’t producing the effect I wanted to create. Further, I also did not like how the front stitches came out and I knew that the only way to fix that was if I hand-sewed the front of the wallet.

I started then the process of making my final prototype with a few changes. The first thing that I changed was the color of the leather, I decided to use black because I knew that If I made any mistake, it would not show as much as it did in the white wallet. I also decided to add the holes so I could hand-sew the front of the wallet.

After finishing the leather with Resolene and Edge Coat, I hand sew the ID Holder to the top layer of the wallet, and then hand sew both to the main body of the wallet with a waxed red thread. After that I attached the zipper to the outside of the wallet

The next part of the process was sewing the cardholders in the lining. I finally finished the wallet by sewing the lining with the outer part of the wallet.
